Novels that Have Been Made into Theater Plays the Most Number of Times

Due to the success of Les Mis film, I gathered Broadway musicals that were adapted in work of fiction. And here, I made a list of the longest running musical theatrical production based in novels that people want to see over and over again.

Mary Poppins
Performances: 2,579
Mary Poppins is based on children’s books by P. L. Travers. The stage musical is a combination of numerous components from the motion and the books.

Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz is based upon the popular novel of Gregory Maguire, which counterparts L. Frank Baum’s classic masterpiece”The Wizard of Oz.” It tells the story of the good witch named Glinda and the wicked witch of the West Elphaba.

Les Miserables

Based on the 1862 classic novel by French playwright Victor Hugo, colloquially known as Les Miz, became a world-wide phenomenon.

CATS

Not all knows that this is based on poem anthologies of T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” The story revolves around on the psychological and sociological behaviours of anthromorphised felines such as Mr. Mistofoffelees, Skimbleshanks, and Grizabella.

The Phantom of the Opera
Performances: 10,399
It is the longest running musical in Broadway history. The Phantom of the Opera is also musically composed by Andre Lloyd Webber that is based upon on Gaston Leroux’s French novel.
